Transformers are the essential unit of industrial controls; moreover, they are Just as affected by degeneration and quickly fading. Assembled moisture in a transformer accommodates the integrity of the transformer’s insulation. Generally, the intrusive moisture is in the form of water, soaked by the cellulose paper insulation or mixed into the transformer oil.

In order to maintain the safety and constancy of transformers, it is necessary to be able to figure out the moisture content that is inside the transformer and use proper ways to clear all moisture out.

 

There are two ways to a moisture content in a transformer.

  1. Dew point analysis
  2. Water-in-oil analysis

If there is an important level of water, steps should be taken to dry the transformer as soon as possible. Otherwise, it risks of damaging the transformer and diminishing its lifetime due to derogatory of chemical processes between the water and the insulation.

  1. Hot oil flush
  2. Hot oil spray

Here is another method to dried up moisture is to dismantle the transformer and keep the coil assembly in a hot, temperature-controlled oven to dry. However, this technique is unwanted and very old due to its disadvantage, costly and the amount of time it takes to perform.

 

Hot oil flush

This procedure takes more time than the hot spray method, yet it is simpler to conduct. Hot oil is moved through a filter press that consists paper elements. Then, the paper is splash onto the transformer coil assembly. The hot oil in the paper consumes moisture in a simpler way than the cold oil that has impurities associated with it, so by flushing the structure with the hot oil paper, the moisture is ejected from the transformer coil assembly.

This method is useful i.e. it can eject a great amount if water impurities from the transformer assembly If it does not remove all of the water completely.

 

Hot spray oil

The hot oil spray procedure is more famous and consists of spraying the transformer insulation with hot oil while together sucking immediately surrounding air into a vacuum. The erect heat of the sprayed hot oil can create water to evaporate. The evaporation is then possessed by the suction of the vacuum. If this procedure is combined with a cold trap, the frozen water can provide a detailed measurement that was contained in the transformer.
